The problem is these damn rubber thingies have to fit on 2 carbs at the same time. You can fit them on one carb or the other, but they’re just not flexible enough to stay on both at the same time.
Enter the Heat Gun! I warmed these puppies up until they were smokin! I’d got the first one on the first carb, clamped it down, heated it up again, and finally got it on the second one. Both carbs at the same time! I also use a dab of motor oil spread around the inside lip to help them slide on. They have to be slid all the way to match the ridge on the carb before you clamp.
Phew! I’m sure they get warm when the motor’s running, but all that heat made me worry about them drying out and cracking, so I gave them a shot of Armor All.
